Study - Risk of Venous Disease
What is the Study About?
This study is looking at the role of a certain gene called MTHFR in people with varicose veins and superficial venous thrombosis. This gene test (which is just a blood test) may prove useful for identifying patients that are at higher risk for progression of venous disease.

Subject Criteria
- Are you younger than 18 years?
- Are you currently pregnant or have you been pregnant within the past 6 months?
- Have you been diagnosed with any malignant cancer?
- Have you ever been diagnosed with COPD?
- Have you been diagnosed with any systemic inflammatory disease (i.e. RA, lupus, MS) before?
- Have you experienced any severe trauma, surgery or prolonged periods of inactivity in the prior 30 days?

What can I Expect?
- 15 minutes of paperwork to complete when you are here
- A blood test along with your routine vein treatment by Dr. Richman
- A follow-up blood test 3 months after your first blood test
- For both sets of labs you must fast for 4 hours.
